HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! I hope you all had a fun holiday.
Our field trip to Harper Mnt is coming up quickly. Today, you will receive a package of info from your child. Please fill out the information pertaining to your child's height, weight, shoe size etc. VERY CAREFULLY. The staff on the mountain uses this info to match a good fitting set of rentals to your child. This ensures your child can ski in comfort, as well as saving a lot of time on our first visit. The faster we are fitted and geared up, the longer we have to enjoy skiing.
DATES FOR HARPER MOUNTAIN SKI FIELD TRIP:
Wed., Feb 8
Wed., Feb 15
Wed., Feb 22
There are 2 free adult passes per class. You are more than welcome to join us. We really need parents with trucks or vans that can transport any equipment that kids own personally.
Please let me know ASAP if you can join us, and on which days.
McQEEN LAKE
EXTRA! EXTRA! ARE YOU INTERESTED IN HELPING?
Mrs. Sarassin and I are willing to take our classes to the McQueen Lake Environmental Centre for a sleep over on Mon. May 29 - Tues. May 30.
We will need a huge committment from some parents to join us. You need to be willing to ride up with us on the bus (reducing our carbon footprint). Parents will be organized in to teams to unpack gear, place it in assigned cabins, cook, clean, sleep in the cabins with the kids, etc. The centre has some very particular rules and guidelines for all adults to follow such as no smoking or drinking, etc. Mrs. Sarassin and I will organize all sorts of fun, educational activities for the kids. Please let me know if you are able to join us. I realize that this means missing a couple of days of work for a lot of families. However, I have never met a child who has forgetten their McQueen Lake experience.
And finally, the grade fours have the government's Fundamental Skills Assessment coming up this month. This set of literacy and numeracy tests provides a snapshot of your child's achievement on the day they take the test. Some of it is completed on line at school and some is written. The results are reported back to parents and the school but DO NOT effect your child's marks in the second term. Please be aware that your child might experience some test anxiety. I work with them very carefully during the week of the assessment to make sure they feel as comfortable and confident as possible
If you have any questions or comments re: any of the above, please feel free to give me a call at the school or email me at [email protected]
